A prayer for all those experiencing hardship because of the terrible winter storm:

A WINTER PRAYER

Father, sometimes it seems wrong to throw my fears and complaints your way; as if I’m sinning. There is so much injustice and suffering in the world, and here I can’t seem to go but a few days without the comforts of electricity and running water and I feel like my whole world is falling apart. But your holy Word gives me examples of how the saints of old did the same thing… they turned to you in their day of trouble. They offered up their complaints to you. Their example makes me bold to cast my anxieties on you, too, for you care for me. You are my true Father and you have promised to love me as a dear child. Give me strength of faith to know that my fears are unfounded because you watch over me–my world is not falling apart. Grant that my laments will not slip into accusations, and grant me the assurance that you hear my prayers for help and will answer them – not based on any merit in me, but based on the merits and promises of Your Son, my Savior, Jesus Christ. Lord, graciously preserve my neighbors who are without necessities, help me to share of what I have with others, and give me a heart that looks outward not inward in times like this. Send your holy angels to guard and protect all utility workers and those who must travel.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
